Join us in the Inspired Art Project

Note: Applications are closed for Inspired Art 2011.  We invite you to come join us throughout September for our event.  If you are interested in being added to the notification list when 2012′s call to artist is released, please send an email to Brian at bbullington@americascores.org.

Why?

  • Participate in a unique project drawing voices together across Chicago.
  • Benefit creative enrichment for youth: Submitted work constitutes a donation to America SCORES Chicago, directly supporting free youth development to the students of under-resourced communities in Chicago.
  • Become part of the history and fabric of Inspired Art and America SCORES.  Accepted pieces will be photographed and form a digital archive for future use in SCORES collateral (in which artists will be credited).
  • Increase your exposure: Show off your work to new, diverse audiences at the Inspired Art Project Show, and through this blog.  Hang work in a Chicago gallery along side established artists and new talents.  Connect to new communities across Chicago.  Have your work immortalized on program cover, or as part of the Inspired Art greeting card collection.

There is no entry or gallery fee, and all artists will have the option to receive a 20% commission based on the final auction price. America SCORES Chicago is a 501c(3) charity and art donations may be tax deductible.

How:

  1. Get inspired by reading The Poetry by America SCORES poet-athletes and browsing the work from 2010 and 2009.
  2. Select a poem from our 3rd-8th grade poet athletes, which inspires you, or let us suggest a few if you wish.
  3. Complete our “Intent to Submit” application.  Submit 2-3 samples of work (a link to your website will do; but you may email 2-3 JPGs to bbullington[AT]americascores.org).  This application reserves your poem and provides you an initial Invitation to Submit.
  4.  Please Note: Invitation to create a work does not guarantee that your piece will be selected for the show, but it does show that the committee feels your past work indicates strong potential for inclusion.
Outstanding applications may receive special “pre-approval,” which does guarantee that your work will be included.
  5. Create your work, inspired by the student’s poem.
  6. Feel free to share your poem choice and your reason for the selection in the comment section of the Anthology page.
  7. Submit images of your final work and the Artist Agreement and Donation Form 2011.  The committee will select ~30 pieces to be part of Inspired Art 2011.
  8. Be our guest at the Inspired Art Project show in September.

Through this cycle of inspiration and influence, urban students will witness their creativity brought to life, artists will build connections with diverse communities around the City, and SCORES’ supporters will see the profound impact these youths’ words can have on others.
